The AKAI MPC Key 37 was not showcased at NAMM, but its unveiling appears imminent. A recent leak has provided additional photos of the upcoming 37-key MPC!
As of January 29, 2024, there’s an update with new images of the AKAI MPC Key 37. Interestingly, history seems to be repeating itself, reminiscent of the MPC Key 61 announcement in 2022. Much like back then, the internet is now flooded with images and specifications for the forthcoming MPC Key 37. Just a few days after the last leak, an American retailer has gone ahead and released new visuals of the compact, vibrant red MPC keyboard. This leak also sheds light on the confirmed price, set at $899.
As of January 27, 2024, details regarding the specifications and price of the AKAI MPC Key 37 have surfaced. Synthanatomy reported that MPCstuff.com briefly leaked additional information about the new device, although the leak has been removed. Nevertheless, crucial specifications have been revealed.
The MPC Key 37 is expected to provide 32 GB of internal memory, matching the capacity of the 61-key version, contrary to previous assumptions. Notably, it will incorporate Bluetooth, WiFi, and Ableton Link functionalities, along with an SD card reader.
In terms of connectivity, the compact workstation is set to include MIDI In/Out and three pedal inputs, in addition to featuring 8 CV/Gate outputs. The device will naturally include a stereo input designed for sampling purposes.
Pricing details are now available, with reports indicating that the MPC Key 37 will be priced at $899.
The question arises: is the AKAI MPC Key 37 on the verge of being unveiled? (Article originally from January 23, 2024)
When AKAI Professional sent me the MPC Key 61 ahead of its official announcement for a review back in 2022, the workstation arrived in a mysterious package wrapped in black foil all around – even though the MPC keyboard wasn’t really a secret anymore at that point. With the smaller version, the manufacturer’s security measures seem less strict.
A couple of days prior to the commencement of NAMM 2024, two photos of what appears to be the AKAI MPC Key 37 have emerged on Reddit. The initial image depicts several boxes on a cart, providing evidence that the smaller MPC keyboard is a reality, with the first units seemingly already in circulation.
The second image is a somewhat blurry snapshot of the instrument itself. This picture resolves the mystery surrounding the new red MPC discussed last week. Initially thought to be a potential MPC Live III, it turns out it is, in fact, the new condensed version of the MPC keyboard workstation.
With the exception of the keyboard size, which is 37 keys, the specifications and features of the upcoming MPC remain undisclosed. It is reasonable to assume that it will possess less memory and likely fewer connectivity options compared to its larger counterpart, but it is also anticipated to come with a more budget-friendly price tag.
There’s a possibility that AKAI aims to establish the introduced red color from the MPC One+ as the new standard for affordable entry-level MPCs.
Additional details about the AKAI MPC Key 37 are currently limited, and only the manufacturer holds information about its release date. Judging from the available pictures, an official announcement seems imminent. While AKAI Professional is not participating in NAMM this year, an announcement coinciding with the event still appears plausible. We will keep you informed as more details emerge.
